“Design and optimisation of a CubeSat thermal model using AI to implement the DORT system”

MUnique Technology GmbH is a young company on sustainable growth. Our DeepTech company has specialised in the field of optical measurement technology with an innovative length measuring device (DORT). The system enables a wide range of applications in the field of satellite constellations, e.g. earth observation, satellite internet or navigation systems.

In the NewSpace sector, CubeSat systems are mainly used for rapid development and implementation. Nevertheless, these payloads have to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of space. Among other things, a thermal test is carried out to ensure the functionality of the system and to characterise

Tasks of the doctorate:

  • Literature research on the design of CubeSat structures
  • Design and setup of the CubeSat structure
  • Simulation (including thermal) and topology optimisation with the help of AI
  • Implementation of the DORT system incl. verification tests
  • Creation of a test environment for high-precision distance measurement
  • Validation of the measurement performance under environmental influences
  • Technical report


  • Master’s Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, micro and nanotechnology or similar
  • Experience with CAD design software (Fusion 360)
  • Knowledge of Python, C++
  • Knowledge of measurement technology and optics advantageous
  • English (fluent), German (basic knowledge)
